Bases cerebrales de la cognición humana: ¿Qué nos hace ser humanos? ¿De qué manera nuestros aprendizajes son influenciados por la herencia y el ambiente?

Mi interés se focaliza en el estudio del desarrollo de la cognición humana. En nuestro laboratorio realizamos investigaciones en humanos desde la edad de recién nacidos hasta la adultez. Las poblaciones estudiadas incluyen a grupos de personas sanas monolingües y bilingües, en riesgo cognitivo o con deficiencias sensoriales avanzadas como la sordera. Nuestros temas actualmente en desarrollo incluyen las bases neuro-cognitivas del lenguaje, la cognición social, el pensamiento lógico-matemático, el pensamiento simbólico y la comunicación humana.

Usamos métodos comportamentales y de neuroimagen cerebral, ya que nuestro objetivo central es explorar y comprender mejor el desarrollo de la mente humana en su interacción con el medio ambiente y conectar los modelos cognitivos obtenidos con la neurobiología.
